Mangalyadhaaranam

The Thaali, a sacred thread, signifies the new bond that is now formed between the bride, the groom and their respective families. The ritual to tie this Thaali, Maangalyadhaaranam, is initiated by Kanyadhaanam - where the bride is seated on her father's lap. The father then proceeds to hand his daughter over to the groom and offers the couple his blessings.

The Maangalyadhaaranam is timed to the exact auspicious minute, where the bride remains seated on her father’s lap, the bridegroom ties the Thaali around her neck. Three knots are tied, the first one by the bridegroom and the other two by the bridegroom’s sister to make the bride a part of their family.
